All of our ceramics classes are beginner friendly, run 6-8 weeks long, and include clay (up to 25lbs), glazes, and in studio materials. If you have never taken a clay class before, I highly recommend our Thursday night HANDBUILDING BYOB class. It is a great introduction to clay before hopping onto the more challenging skills required for using the wheel. No outside clay and glazes are allowed in our pottery studio. All adult classes include up to 4 hrs a week of additional studio time during designated open studio hrs., and students can make up to 10 pieces total in a six week class . Pottery wheels during open studio hours are first come/first serve, but we ask that you be considerate of other students needs during those times as well. Both Open Studio and Classes are for enrolled students only. Please do not bring kids or other adults into the studio space during those time.
*Adult classes are for students over the age of 18. Please do not sign up your child for an adult class no matter how gifted or mature they are. Instead, look to book a private or semi-private lesson*
WHEEL STUDENTS PLEASE READ
-If you are new to our studio YOU MUST BE PRESENT for the first class. This is for your own success as well as the success of your fellow class mates. IF YOU MISS THE FIRST CLASS AND ARE NEW TO OUR STUDIO, YOU WILL BE REMOVED FROM THE CLASS WITH NO REFUND.
-YOU CAN NOT HAVE LONG NAILS and be successful at the potters wheel. Please make sure to arrive with nails clipped before the first class or else all your work will have holes in it.
You can NOT use the wheel if you are in a handbuilding class, even if you know how to throw. We dont have the capacity to support more wheel work outside of those enrolled in wheel classes.
If you withdraw from a class more than 72 hrs before it begins you will be refunded in full minus a $30 processing fee. If you choose to notify us under 72 hrs from your class start, withdraw within 24 of the first class ending, or you are a new student and miss the first class you will receive a 50% refund(new students have to be able to make it to the first class or they will be removed from the class). After that there will be no refunds on classes.
We do not offer transfers to different classes. To switch classes you must get a refund(minus a $30 processing fee) and then sign up for the new class.
At Out of Step Clay we care deeply about teaching proper techniques to finding success on the potters wheel. Through 20+ years of teaching, Joshua has developed processes and techniques that have accelerated students grasp of the fundamentals of working with clay. For wheel students this does involve some close physical interactions with each students hands and arms to show where and when to use your body to control the clay on the wheel. This is not meant to overstep any personal boundaries, but to better instill processes and techniques. If you feel that this close contact would be uncomfortable for you in a learning setting, please reach out to us before enrolling in a class to make sure that our studio space would be an appropriate fit.
We tried to offer teen classes. We couldn’t fill the classes, so we no longer offer them. If you can rally 5 families of teens to sign up for a class, we can make it happen. But otherwise, we will not be offering them for the foreseeable future.
Due to the demand of our classes we do not allow make up classes for any missed class time (studio time can be made up during non-instruction open studio hrs). If a class is missed due to an issue on our end, we will make the appropriate refund or reschedule of class.
*REFUND POLICY* If you withdraw from a class 72 hrs before it begins you will be refunded in full minus a $30 processing fee. If you choose to withdraw after the first class, notify us under 72 hrs from your class start, or you are a new student and miss the first class you will receive a 50% refund(new students have to be able to make it to the first class or they will be removed from the class). After that there will be no refunds on classes.
All students or guardians will be required to sign a liability waiver to participate in a class.
Student work is intended for personal use or as gifts. No student production work or sale of student work will be produced using any Out of Step Clays’ materials or kilns.
